Golf is seen by many as a hobby or a leisure activity to pass the time on weekends or during retirement. However, for the team at Trinity, golf is more than that. Golf is the sport that allows its members to get away from the early stress of school and go out and get some fresh air.

Trinity’s golf team is co-ed, which encourages players of both genders to enjoy the game. The team began practicing in the middle of August to get back into the “swing of things.” On August 17, the team traveled to the Village Green Golf Course to compete in the Big South tournament. The team finished second overall, and there were two individual placements. Junior Michael Parrish finished first overall and Junior Andrew Ciotto finished third overall.

“Our goal was to take home some hardware, and we came away with a team trophy and two individual trophies,” said Junior Noah Johnson.

The team decided not to have designated captains this season. However, each player brings certain leadership qualities. Whether these qualities be verbal, physical or demonstrative, each member of the team has a unique characteristic that everyone can learn from.

“Everyone pushes each other hard at practice when we are able to have it,” said Johnson.

After the competition, the team went on to play Ringgold. After this match, the team went on to play a few section rivals: Chartiers Valley, Peters Township, Cannon Mac, South Fayette and Upper St. Clair. In high school golf, the vast majority of matches are against section rivals. This setup increases the significance of these matchups to push for the playoffs at the end of the season.

“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to make the playoffs. However now that it is nearing the end of the season and we are not in line to make the playoffs, our goal is to beat one of the teams in the three way tie,” said Junior Lizzie Herrnberger.

The team ended their season with a final match on October 3 at McGuffey. While the team was disappointed to not make the playoffs and to lose the current seniors, there is plenty to look forward to for the fall of 2019 and beyond!
