The Trinity Swim team has kicked off their season and some may say it has gone ‘swimmingly.’ The Trinity Swim team is led by Head Coach Brian Day as well as Assistant Coaches Carla Hartley and Britney Galik. The captains are Seniors Cameron Street-Spencer and Leo Carder.
The Swim team participates in many events in long and short distances, including 200 yard medley relay, 200 individual medley, 200 individual freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 yard relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breakstroke, and 400 yard relay.
The Hillers are looking forward to the WPIAL competition on February 26-27, 2026, at the University of Pittsburgh and the state competition on March 12-13, 2026, at Bucknell University. Many swimmers on the team have qualified for WPIALs already.
The Hillers have five girls and five boys going to WPIALs. Street-Spencer has qualified for the 200 free, 500 free, 100 free and 100 fly and Junior Lucas Dzikowski has qualified for the 200 IM and 100 fly. Sophomore Ava Terkay has also qualified for WPIALs in the 100 free, 50 free and 200 free. Carder also qualified for the 50 free. Also swimming at WPIALs will be Sophomore Lucy O’Neal and Freshman Ella Berry. They will be swimming in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay with Terkay and Street-Spencer. The other two boys going to WPIALs are Sophomores Nolan Sienkel and Ethan Kaczmark. They will be competing in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay with Dzikowski and Carder. The alternates are Junior Izzy Likar and Freshman Joseph Casillas.
Day spoke on his favorite part of coaching the swim team: “I love watching the swimmers improve through dedication and hard work. You get out what you put in!”
People who are looking for a winter sport or are considering joining the swim team are highly encouraged to join the team.
Dzikowski talked about why someone should join: “It is a great sport for cross training, discipline and it also works all the muscles in your body.”
Another important part of the swim team is the role the seniors play. They are expected to be leaders both in and out of the pool.
Berry spoke on her senior captain Street-Spencer: “The captains have shown great leadership and really welcomed me to the team. Cameron really inspires me to do my best at meets and at practices.”
As the Hillers wrap up this season, they look to continue their success from this year into next. The boys got their big win vs Belle Vernon and the girls have continued success as they won runner-up in their section.
Berry explained what she is looking to do in her next years: “I am looking forward to getting even more personal records and making it to WPIALs in future years.”
So as the Hillers continue swimming in the pool, make sure to cheer them on and support them as they continue on to WPIALs.
