As the Hillers’ girls’ basketball team settles into their current season, the girls are preparing to make the most of it all. As of January 23, 2026, the team is 12-4 this season and plan to keep that winning record as they move forward.
Led by their coaches, Coach Poletti, Belville, Williamson and Johnson, and their captains, Seniors Kimari Behrens and Bently Layhue, and Juniors Vittoria Emerich and Sutton Williamson, the girls prepare to play four more regular season games before making their way into playoffs. As they recently played both of their rivals (Thomas Jefferson and Baldwin) in the same week, with two very close losses to Thomas Jefferson and one loss to Baldwin, with their second game against them Friday, January 23, 2026. The team is working harder and harder to make it all the way.
“We definitely need to bring everything we have to beat these teams. These next few games will determine where we stand in the playoffs,” stated Behrens.
Although aspects on the court get tough, the team keeps their good chemistry strong off the court. Many of the girls feel that their family dynamic is one of the most important factors to being a strong team on the court.
“I feel like on the court we have good chemistry. We all try to bring each other up when one of us isn’t having a good game and cheer each other on,” added Behrens.
The girls are preparing for the challenges they will face come playoffs. Although they are aware that they will need full focus, the girls practice every day of the week. They begin with stretching and warming up, then quickly move on to skills and conditioning. They work as hard as possible at practice in preparation for their upcoming games.
“Our schedule this season is pretty tough. We’ve lost only a few games, but the scores were very close. We are in a very good and difficult section and our non-section games are hard, too. We wanted it that way, as it prepares us for the harder games later in the season,” said Williamson.
As the playoffs quickly approach, the team is certainly off to a great start on the road to victory. Be sure to support the team at their next home game and senior night on February 5, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. against Uniontown Area High School. Good luck this season, girls!
