This year, the Trinity boys’ wrestling team will look to continue their success from last year where they won their section. The Hillers have had some early success in this season during their first matches and tournaments. They also have gained some personal awards when Sophomore Parker Jennings won Observer Reporter’s Athlete of the Week in December 2025.
The Hillers have one team captain and five coaches. Junior Jacob Wright is the captain and the coaches are Coach Tarquinio, Coach Bucky, Coach Bowman, Coach Reihner and Coach Nicholson.
The wrestling team usually has matches on Wednesdays and tournaments on the weekends throughout the winter. The matches run by starting at the lowest weight and continuing all the way up to the heavyweights. There are thirteen different weight classes: 107 and under, 114-, 121-, 127-, 133-, 139-, 145-, 152-, 160-, 172-, 189-, 215- and 285 and under.
An important mark for wrestlers is reaching 100 career wins. Senior Dominick Canali reached this mark his junior year and this year he looks to break the all-time wins record for the school.
Freshman Jaxson Gillis commented on a fellow freshman wrestler: “Gavin Bricker is the freshman this year who is making an immediate impact on the team.”
The wrestling team looks to qualify for WPIALS, which can be done as a team and individually. To qualify as a team, the team will look to win their section again. To qualify individually, the wrestler must take top six in their weight class at sections.
Coach Reihner spoke about his time coaching wrestling: “My favorite part is the competitions and watching the kids work on all the stuff we have been working on.”
For any boy who is thinking about joining the wrestling team, it is encouraged that they consider doing so.
Senior Luke Poland voiced why new people should join the team: “It’s a lot of fun and you can make new friends, it also keeps you in shape for whatever other sports you play. I also really enjoy the trips and having fun with my teammates.”
As the Hillers continue to wrestle this season, make sure to support them as they prepare for sectional tournaments and WPIALS.
