As the spring sports season continues, the Trinity High School track and field team is making strides both on and off the track. With a mix of experienced upperclassmen and motivated younger athletes, the team is focused on improvement, teamwork, and pushing their limits at every meet.
So far, the boys season has been successful, especially as of recently.
Senior Braden Rager said, “The season has been pretty good. I had a lot of success in discus, and there have been mutliple PRs across the board.”
On the girls’ side, the season has gone really well, with a few girls even getting in the Trinity record books. One of those was Junior Taylor Farabee. She set the school record for the 55 meter dash at 6.63 seconds.
Farabee reflected on the moment, saying, “It felt pretty good. It was a breath of fresh air. For the first part of the season I hurt my calf and had to sit out, so coming back to break that record felt good. I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time.”
Another record holder is Junior Ella Sammel who put herself at 13th in the WPIAL record book for a 5-7 high jump which broke her own Trinity record as well.
Trinity has been toward the top in many different events this year. Mainly in the field events however have been pretty successful in track events as well.
Farabee said “The season has gone pretty good. We’ve had a lot of top three meets. We’ve done very good in triple jump, high jump, shotput and hurdles.”
Throughout the season, Trinity track athletes compete in a variety of events, including sprints, distance races, relays, and field events. Each meet gives runners and field competitors the opportunity to test their abilities and represent their school with pride. While the team may not always focus on overall records, their effort and dedication are clear every time they step onto the track.
Rager said “There has been a lot of improvement this year, and even more PRs. We’ve worked a lot on technique this year.”
Team chemistry has also been a major factor in Trinity’s season. Runners consistently support one another during races and celebrate each other’s accomplishments, creating a positive and encouraging environment. This sense of unity has helped the team stay motivated, even when facing tough competition.
Coaches have emphasized not only performance but also discipline and perseverance. With that, the athletes have been practicing different starts which is where a runner practices how to get a quick start in their run and overall speed this year as well.
Farabee said, “I’ve worked on improving my overall speed and start. I’ve also practiced my form.”
The coaches guidance has helped athletes stay focused on their goals and continue to grow throughout the season. Many team members have already seen personal improvements, setting new personal records and gaining confidence in their abilities.
Rager said, “I’ve PR’ed in discus and shotput this year. I’ve gotten 113.7 feet in discus and 39.8 feet in shotput.”
As the season moves forward, Trinity High School’s track and field team remains determined to finish strong. With continued hard work and commitment, they hope to build on their progress and leave a lasting impression.
