The spirit of giving is very alive here at Trinity High School. On Friday, December 6, eight members from the FCCLA club went to the Ronald McDonald House to decorate the doors for the residents. FCCLA stands for the Future Career Community Leaders of America and is run by Mrs. Alvieto

The Ronald McDonald House is an apartment-like building in Pittsburgh and provides a home for families that have children in the hospital. The ages at the house range from eight to twenty-one. The house is connected to the Children’s Hospital so that the children can have immediate care if needed. If a person lives fifty miles or more from Pittsburgh, they are eligible to live in the Ronald McDonald House. 

For the winter season, FCCLA decorated the doors, gave out 120 candy canes, and passed out 142 Christmas cards. Senior Joie Engle said that the event went very smoothly and they hope to visit in the spring to do it again.  She said all of the people were very kind and they even got a tour of the Ronald McDonald House. 

The FCCLA members have many opportunities. They have the ability to get scholarships for college through the club while learning about raising kids, time management, finances, life management, presentation skills, public speaking, leadership skills, and understanding different job fields.  

The club also competes in different competitions and they have different goals to complete every month. The FCCLA competition provides events to showcase college and career ready skills. They go to a state competition with the group and if they win, go to nationals. They also do some community service which helps with the ten hours of community service that is needed to graduate. 

“We’d love for you to join the FCCLA,”  Engle says.

 FCCLA works all year to organize countless events. Some of the events that they have planned include a parent night out, teacher appreciation, donation drives, the decorating the doors at the Ronald McDonald House. Additionally, they are planning the glow dance which is on January 18.

“Look out for the flyer for the glow dance.” Mrs. Aliveto says.

FCCLA’s acts of great kindness show that the spirit of giving is very much alive here at Trinity High School. These eight students showed their kindness to the residents of the Ronald McDonald House.
