Meet the new 9th and 10th-grade science teacher, Mr. Smith. Smith graduated from Springfield High School, located east of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of the class of 2017. He previously taught biology at Collegium Charter School for three years and student-taught for one year. Recently, Smith started teaching at Trinity in late September after he and his girlfriend moved into town to be closer to family. He now teaches biology to 10th grade students and also principles of science to 9th-grade students.
Smith chose this career path in his sophomore year of college and has remained committed to it ever since.
“I think if I weren’t a science teacher, I would enjoy being a gym teacher; they have it pretty good,” he says.
Outside of school, Smith enjoys reading books, taking care of his plants, and going to the gym. Smith has many plans to help students here at Trinity succeed, and he appreciates being a part of students’ education. So far, Smith has been enjoying his time here: “The staff and students here are so great. I really like how many sports Trinity is a part of. I enjoy watching and supporting.”
Collegium Charter School does not partake in many sports; they don’t even have a football team. So coming to Trinity and being a part of a school atmosphere of many athletics and school spirit has been fun for him.
Smith also works hard to make all of his lessons interactive and engaging for students, generally caring for their education. Science education in schools is now more crucial than ever, serving as the bedrock for innovation and critical thinking. Smith believes this makes investing in science education important because students deserve a solid foundation in science principles.
“My expectations for my time here at Trinity are to continue growing in my own education, but also apply new tools and tech to all of my students.” Smith expects
A teacher’s attitude toward students can significantly influence education and help them gain respect from students, creating a better learning environment, and Smith has done both.
Trinity is happy to welcome Smith to be a part of the district and wishes him a good rest of the year with his students.
