Being a Hiller is practically synonymous with being a winner, especially when it comes to athletics. But, it’s rare to see students have the opportunity to share the spotlight with a sibling, let alone a twin sister. Juniors Alexia and Elaina Ashby, however, are defying expectations as they set records and make school history.
As captains of the girls’ varsity wrestling team, the Ashbys aren’t strangers to making waves in the world of Trinity athletics. They are the living legacy of the girls’ wrestling team, as they have been actively competing since its inaugural season in 2023.
“Girls’ Wrestling started as almost nothing, but now our team is beginning to achieve greater things for our school, which can hopefully inspire others to strive for these amazing opportunities,” says Alexia Ashby.
Over the years, the sport has become an integral part of their lives, teaching them lessons they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Elaina Ashby comments, “Wrestling is opening up a lot of opportunities for so many girls, whether that’s with colleges or by providing life skills. The sport teaches you a lot about your mindset, discipline and pushing yourself. It teaches you things to take with you through life.”
This February, Elaina Ashby put those lessons to use as she set a school record, becoming the first female wrestler in Trinity history to reach 50 career wins.
“I knew I could set this record if I kept practicing and working hard. Every match I got closer and closer until I finally hit 50 wins,” Elaina Ashby explains.
Success continued to follow the Ashby twins, seeing as, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, they became the first girls in Trinity High School history to qualify to States for girls’ varsity wrestling at the West Regional Tournament. Both twins put on an outstanding performance at the meet, with Alexia placing 4th and Elaina placing first overall.
The following weekend, the twins traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania, to compete in the PIAA Girls’ Championship. Setting yet another Trinity Athletics milestone, Elaina Ashby became the first girl in Trinity history to place at State championships for girls’ wrestling, coming in at 4th overall.
As Alexia and Elaina continue to amass achievements and honors, keep an eye on their wrestling careers and remember, they’re only juniors, so there’s still much more in store!
