Trinity’s girls’ lacrosse team may have just begun their season, but they are already off to a fantastic start! In anticipation of playoffs, the girls have put in considerable effort to secure their spot this year.
This year, Becky Loulli leads the team as the head coach alongside Assistant Coach Jim Powell. The captains of the team are Juniors Micha Mariana, Myah Agmon and Avery Powell, with the seniors including Ava Bowman, Allyson Heidish and Lila Briggs.
Even before their official season started, the girls put in time and effort to better themselves as team members. Optional practices were held a few months before the beginning of the season, where the girls had the opportunity to meet with Coach Ryan Rizor on Mondays and Wednesdays. Rizor worked diligently with the team on strengthening and conditioning exercises in preparation for the season. Optional two-hour practices were also held on Wednesdays and Saturdays for more training.
Practices during the regular season take place Monday through Friday from 5-7 p.m. These entail a warmup, where the girls take a lap around the field. They also do stretches, where they work on agility, speed and strength training. The coaches then step in to work on drills, rounding out practice with a scrimmage.
Loulli explains that the team’s main goal this year is to make it to playoffs.
She describes it as “a lot like having a long-term project for a class; each day you check something off the long list of things that need accomplished while keeping your eyes on the end result.”
In addition to playoffs, Loulli adds that she prioritizes building the players’ confidence, communication between team members and strengthening camaraderie between the girls both on and off the field.
“As a whole, the team gets along very well. I can confidently say we are comfortable working and playing together. We even hold team bonding events outside of practices,” reports Agmon.
Matches will look slightly different for the team this year as they are competing in a new section. This will bring old rivals, such as Seton-La Salle and Canon Mac, back to face off with the girls as well as new teams to continue to challenge them.
The team members describe the matches as fast-paced and physically demanding.
Sophomore Kennedy Tracey says, “We always have fun as a team no matter what the scoreboard looks like.”
Loulli reiterates that she intends on fostering growth as a team and individually. Even beyond lacrosse, she wants to help each girl learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication and humility.
Be sure to support the girls at their next home game on March 27, 2025, against Yough!
