When Senior Ruby Morgan walks the stage at graduation this June, she will be leaving an unforgettable mark on Trinity High School Athletics. As one of the only members of the senior class to commit to play in a Division I athletics program, she has truly set herself apart from her peers and will continue to impact the lives of others as she continues her academic and soccer career at Eastern Kentucky University.
Morgan has been a star athlete throughout her high school career, in both soccer and basketball, and her accomplishments reflect the high standards she has held herself to. She has been named an all-section soccer player every year of her high school career and all-WPIAL player for three years. Her accolades for basketball include earning 31 points on senior night and being named to the first team all-section this year.
As impressive as Morgan’s personal accomplishments are, she didn’t stop there. She also helped to elevate her teammates and lead them to three basketball sectional championships, three state appearances for basketball and a win (2-1) on the soccer team’s senior night.
Winning games and making sectionals isn’t the only way that Morgan inspires her teammates and coaches, either.
Junior Abby Higgins, Morgan’s close friend and teammate says, “Ruby has taught me how to keep a positive attitude through hard times, and as co-captains this year, she taught me how to lead others off the field as well.”
Though the impact left by Morgan on Trinity Athletics will be felt for years to come, she has many great things ahead of her.
Morgan’s high school soccer coach, Mrs. Hrycko, says, “I hope to see her never lose her confidence, work ethic and love for the game. She will be successful in everything she does!”
As she attends Eastern Kentucky University, she will be majoring in physical therapy and hopes to obtain a doctorate after she graduates. Morgan’s future plans are strongly rooted in her goals of giving back to the community and helping those around her. While she studies for her doctorate after college she hopes to work as an assistant college soccer coach and continue to guide other athletes down a path to success.
Once she has obtained a doctorate in physical therapy, she wants to use that knowledge to help other athletes recover from injuries and get back to their sports. This has been a goal of her since she tore her ACL in 8th grade and saw firsthand the good that physical therapy can do for others.
Committing to a Division I school takes years of work and Morgan has been working to accomplish this goal since she was young. With the financial and emotional support of her parents, Morgan has managed to push herself to perform at the highest level to make her dream come true.
“Becoming a Division I athlete has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. To be able to accomplish this is so rewarding for all the work I’ve put in. Also, competing with the top soccer players as well as prioritizing my academics is very important to me,” Morgan says.
As she continues on her journey of helping others and furthering her athletic career, Trinity High School wishes Ruby Morgan all the best as she continues to shine and sees her childhood dreams come to life!
