This year, the girl’s lacrosse team has worked hard to have an exciting season!

The team consists of a small but mighty group of 18 girls including the two senior captains, Caroline Quedenfeld and Ainslee Plesko. This school year, their season started on March 4 and will run until their banquet on May 16.

As a team, they practice Monday through Friday. If the girls are practicing on the football field their practice runs from 5-7 p.m and if they are in the athletic complex, practice typically starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends around 7:30 p.m. In addition to practices, they also have days where they do workouts in the athletic complex with Coach Rizor.

At practice, the coaches will run any drills the girls struggle with as well as work on strength training and conditioning. Assistant Coach Rebecca Louli and Head Coach Jerry Frazee take comments and feedback from the girls about their game performance in order to work out kinks and fine-tune little mistakes.

When it comes to games, the girls normally play about two to three games per week as the season progresses and gets into full swing. The team plays a rough and competitive bracket with some of their biggest competitors being Moon, Mars and Seton LaSalle with their season record being 1-8 as of April 26. Fans are always encouraged to come support the team at their games to cheer them on!

“We love having fans in the stands! Lacrosse is such an exciting and fast-paced game to watch,” comments Louli.

With all the time the team spends together, there is no doubt they have a close relationship! All of the girls hold the value of being a “team player” to a high standard. Plesko explains how the team acts as a family; they are always joking and laughing with each other but when it comes down to it, the girls are always there to look out for each other and give a shoulder to lean on after a rough practice or day.

Plesko also explains how being a team player is more than being a good teammate on the field. It also helps maintain balance in day to day life.

Next year, Plesko plans to keep playing lacrosse as she is committed to Allegheny College as a member on the lacrosse team. While playing lacrosse, she also plans to work toward a degree in computer science.

Quedenfeld also plans to continue playing lacrosse next year at Penn State where she will have to try out for the team.

Make sure to go support the girls lacrosse team at their next game on April 29 as their season comes to a close! The Hiller wishes the team good luck for the rest of their season! Great job, girls!
