The lady Hillers huddle before a big game, hyping each other up, a tradition before each game.

Six games into the season, the girls’ volleyball team at Trinity has had a tremendous season so far with a current rank of 5-1, their only loss being to South Fayette. The team’s biggest rivals are Montour and South Fayette.

The seniors consist of Jacqueline Hancher, Ava Deboer and Claudia Cappelli. All three seniors are also captains of the team.

Hancher speaks on her favorite part of playing for Trinity: “I love practicing with the girls and growing closer as a team.”

The team usually practices Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and occasionally on Saturdays. They practice drills such as stretching and passing with a partner. Then they hit lines, serve and scrimmage each other to get ready for games.

Before games, their coach Mrs. Helmcamp gives them a rundown of their opponents´ advantages and disadvantages to prepare the girls. A tradition of the volleyball team is bringing a mouse figurine named Craig that was found under the bleachers to away games for good luck.

Junior Rayne Elling states, “My favorite memory on the team was our recent win against Montour in five sets. The first set of the game ended 36-34 in our favor, which is one of the longest sets I’ve ever played.¨

As explained by her teammates, Sophomore Maddy Roberts is said to be one of the most influential players on the team.

Elling states, “Maddy Roberts influences me the most on the team. She is always supportive of her teammates and is one of the best on the team.”

The girls’ volleyball team is a great representation of Trinity High School. Students can show their support by attending the games and cheering the Hiller ladies on! The next game is Thursday, October 14th.
