Making the playoffs is never guaranteed, but this year’s group set out to challenge that. With focus and determination, the Trinity girls’ volleyball team trained hard to accomplish this. The girls showed dedication both on and off the court throughout the season.
Their chemistry and teamwork were key factors in their success, helping them navigate the regular season with confidence and secure a well-earned spot in the playoffs.
While the girls only made it to the first game of the playoffs, the results of this year’s season is proof of their growth and commitment to excellence, not only as a group, but also as individuals. Five of the players made the 3A Section 1 All-Section team this year. Senior Kimari Behrens landed on the first team, both Freshman Gabby Humphreys and Junior Ella Sammel on the second team, and Senior Grace Cessna as well as Junior Briaunna Stolitca made the third team.
Both junior varsity and varsity were fortunate to have great role models this year, with team captains Behrens and Cessna. They have been led by Coaches Helmkamp and Belleville.
Their contributions to the team’s success and their consistently positive attitude have made them well-respected among their teammates.
Varsity player Sophomore Kenzie Bailes commented on her love for the sport: “What I enjoy most about volleyball is the constant opportunity to get better and push myself in an environment that is challenging but also fun. Getting to play with my friends also adds to the atmosphere.”
The team collectively has a few main objectives they always strive to meet in order to achieve success. These include effective court communication, affirming guidance, and holding a positive, competitive attitude throughout each game.
Each player has their own strengths to provide for the team so they are constantly being encouraged to use them productively.
To prepare for upcoming matches the team practiced three days a week. Their practice days consisted of warm-ups, flex stretches, hitting lines and serve-receive. They also scrimmaged on occasion.
The team also works with Coach Rizor for strength and conditioning. Sessions with Rizor are often credited for noticeable improvements in players’ endurance and optimizing overall athletic performance.
The girls’ friendship remains both on and off the court, mutually sharing their love for the game of volleyball. Their bonds with each other help keep up an optimistic outlook even when mistakes are made.
Although the 2025 season for the girls has come to a close, there is so much to look forward to with the future of this team!
