Welcome back, Hillers! After a refreshing two-week winter break, it’s time to hit the ground running as we finish off the final half of the year!
Unfortunately many students, including myself, find this time of year difficult in the sense of staying motivated and in a good mood about school. But have no fear, Cameron is here with some tips and tricks to make the next five months slightly more bearable!
The most important part of the day is waking up. But usually, it’s the most challenging part of the day as well. To avoid the multiple snoozed alarms, rushed morning routines and frazzled start to the day, try and make life as easy as possible for you the night before. Fill up water bottles, pack bookbags and lay clothes out before bedtime to help have a more relaxed way to start the day. Also, try to place your phone farther away to prevent hitting snooze multiple times and sleeping in. To find more tips on this, check out this article written by Staff Writer Taylor Thurman!
Another problem most students have is staying motivated. Schoolwork seems to pile up, and sometimes it doesn’t seem worth doing. There are a couple of short and long term fixes for this. First, misery loves company! Create a group of friends that keep each other accountable, and make it fun, such as hosting fun study dates and rewards for doing well on assignments and tests. Rewards could be something fun like going out to celebrate with a dinner or sweet treat, or even planning a fun day after the end of each nine weeks.
Another good thing to have is a planner. Now, if you are anything like me, you’ll use it maybe once or twice and then it’ll get lost, probably somewhere at the bottom of a backpack, never to be seen again. That’s why this year, it’s getting digitized. Apps like Todoist, Notion and TickTick are all highly recommended to keep schoolwork and other things organized this year.
Self-care during this time is also extremely important. Be sure to get enough sleep every night, eat well and stay active! Keeping care of yourself is vital to keeping morale high and preventing procrasitnation and depression from taking over.
Just remember Hillers, spring break is just around the corner, and there are only five months left of the school year! Keep working hard, Hillers!
