It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate Morgan Layhue for the Student of the Month recognition for November. During my career, I have taught very few students who have the combination of talent, intelligence, and personality that defines Morgan Layhue.
When describing Morgan as a student, the first word that comes to mind is “remarkable”. She stands out during classroom discussions, and her classwork is completed studiously and methodically. Morgan’s ability to pursue excellence and mastery in the classroom is unmatched, but what is even more impressive is her ability to use that knowledge and understanding to help her fellow classmates on their quest towards achieving mastery.
In addition to excelling academically, Morgan is a dynamic and dedicated member of the student body. She is a member of Trinity’s National Honor Society, Cheer team (Senior Cheer Captain), STEAM team, Mock Trial, Student Council (Senior Class Vice President), Math League, Friends of Rachel Club, Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, Trinity’s Leadership Committee, German Club, and Prom Committee. Morgan has received the honor of being an AP Scholar with Distinction, is part of the National Society of High School Scholars, and attended Harvard’s Summer School program for High Schoolers. Over the last three years, Morgan has participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, receiving multiple first-place awards at both the regional and state levels. She also received perfect scores and a special PJAS Award in Biochemistry. It is obvious, based on Morgan’s accomplishments, that she understands the importance of passion and hard work, which she applies to all aspects of her life.
Morgan also finds time to volunteer extensively. She volunteers at the Washington Hospital Emergency Department and at the Washington Humane Society. As a member of the Student Council, she helps with Trinity’s food pantry. In the time Morgan has left, she works as a Lifeguard at Washington County Country Club. Morgan’s capacity to gracefully manage her time between school and extracurricular activities displays a level of dedication, hard work, and perseverance unmatched by her peers.
In conclusion, Morgan Layhue is part of a small group of the most exceptional and inspiring students I have had the privilege of teaching; therefore, she is a worthy candidate for THS Student of the Month.
