On July 4, 2026, America will have reached 250 years of independence. The preparations to honor this milestone have already begun, and Americans are arranging more unique styles of celebration. Philadelphia, PA, is where the Declaration of Independence was signed and where America began, and it only feels right for America’s 250th anniversary to be hosted where it all started.
History teacher Ms. Zupancic elaborates, “Pennsylvania is where the Constitution was broken, early developments and America’s first steps were taken, and where the Liberty Bell rang.”
With arranged celebrations like “Bells Across PA,” a celebration where all 67 counties of PA will host a bell that is painted and decorated by a local artist in each area to represent the historical significance and culture of each county, 24 of these bells are being displayed in Philadelphia. Free concerts in five PA cities, including Pittsburgh, will take place as part of celebrating the nation’s independence, featuring artists such as Lady A, Nelly, and The Avett Brothers performing. This coming June, Philadelphia has the honor of hosting the FIFA World Cup at Lincoln Financial Field starting on the 14, and a specialty 16-match finale on July 4 that coincides with Americas 250 anniversary.
History teacher Mr. Scarmazzi says, “America is a really great country; we should take pride in hosting these events here in PA.”
Because of all these events this summer, the cities of PA will likely be swarming with tourists. Already, spots like Fallingwater, Hershey Park, museums and many more are seen as tourist attractions around summertime. Because of existing attractions and the 250th celebration, tourists coming to Pennsylvania are bringing new revenue to the state. PA outsiders can also learn about the history of the state and learn something new about American history.
Sophomore Rosie Orr recommends visiting Gettysburg, saying, “The Battle of Gettysburg is an amazing place to go see, it honors so much history, and you get to learn more about the battle’s significance.”
Aside from PA, all 30 major league baseball clubs and 120 minor league baseball clubs pledge to achieve 250,000 volunteer hours that benefit those who need it in America. They are currently still under 50,000 volunteers. It is very easy to be a part of, and they have so many different ways to help. Some volunteer events that have already happened are cleaning up beaches, children’s education programs, opportunities for children’s hospital patients to enjoy, and donations. Huge name brands like Coca-Cola, Amazon, Starbucks, Target, P&J and more are joining in to make a year-long branding with America’s 250th. So many opportunities are popping up for spreading awareness about ways to help in the community, while also showing how the country’s growth and how far it’s come. As this milestone is celebrated, it’s important to honor the past while embracing what is yet to come for our country, and looking forward to a future full of promise and unity.
