Looking for things to do amid the Pennsylvania snow? Being stuck inside can be a pain, especially when you’re trying to find things to do and keep yourself busy at home.
To start, online shopping can always be fun. Search for anything of personal interest, such as cool room decor, Lego sets, craft supplies and more. Some people even make a wish list to add everything to. People interested in clothes shopping can find statement pieces to elevate their closet, like shoes, jeans, sweaters and t-shirts. Depop is an easy, affordable way to shop; it is almost like online thrifting.
While you’re at it, browse some personal favorite stores and see what’s new, maybe even order the thing that has been tempting to buy for a while.
Another thing people do is clean their room. It sounds boring, but it can kill time of being snowed in. Organize everything, pick up trash, then deep clean drawers and closets. Wash all dirty clothes in the room and finish up by washing bed sheets and putting on new ones. When it’s done, you’ll have a clean, cozy room to enjoy while stuck inside.
Other options to consider are binge-watching a TV show. It could be something you’ve been wanting to see for a while, or maybe something that’s been all over social media and you have been wanting to see what the hype is about.
Eleventh-grade English teacher, Ms. Cortese, says, “I recommend the ‘Great British Baking Show’, it’s calm, and everyone is nice. Unless there is someone who hasn’t watched ‘Stranger Things’, that show is great to binge.”
Alternatively, some people watch a movie series or just a movie that they want to finally watch. Make a snack and grab a blanket, then watch whatever movie you’re in the mood for.
“My go-to movie series to watch is ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ and ’ The Twilight Saga,’” suggests Sophomore Elyse Bosnic.
If the feeling of getting hungry hits, instead of ordering food online, look up recipes and use ingredients in the kitchen to make something you never made before. Some people even bake a dessert, like cookies, brownies or cake.
Sophomore Kenzie Bailes doesn’t make dessert when snowed in: “I make noodles or buldak and FaceTime my friends.”
Many students FaceTime friends to feel like they’re in school when they’re actually snowed in. They can catch up after a long day of sitting on a Google Meet, or in the case of this past storm, a whole week of Google Meets.
To stay busy, Cortese said, “If you’re stuck with your family, you can play board games or sleep in. I think it’s great to slow down and be inside.”
While being snowed in can be pretty boring, there are many ways to make it fun and exciting while getting away from the stress of everyday life.
