History has always been an important part of the Trinity Area School District. The school not only has a museum to showcase where it came from and how it’s evolved, but it also now has touchscreens, located in the main foyer and athletic foyer of the high school, that highlight the district’s past, present, and future.
Mr. Robin Winston, a distinguished alumni who graduated from Trinity in 1975, donated both the touchscreen boards and software to Trinity. He has also made other donations to the school such as the new graduation stage and scholarships.
Winston has left his impact on Trinity and its legacy, graduating from University of Louisville and going on to become the first African-American to be a chair in the Democratic Party in Indiana. He worked closely with former-president Barack Obama, while also being selected to be a member of the Presidential Electoral College. He was inducted into the Trinity Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2019.
A rising problem within the Trinity Area School District is simply not having enough space on the walls to showcase student and staff accomplishments. The touchscreens, which are located in both the main foyer and athletic foyer, offer a solution to this.
The new touchscreens have a wide range of uses, all of which recognize Trinity’s history as well as current events. Anyone in the community can use either the touchscreens or the website, which houses the same information, to pull up every yearbook in Trinity High School history, dating back to 1928. By searching any name in the search bar, it’s also possible to find any distinguished alumni, championship teams, 1,000 points and 100 wins club, college signings and the sports Hall of Fame.
Assistant Athletic Director Kaci Alderson dedicated many long hours to set up the website and make sure all of the correct information would be on display.
Dr. Lucas shared, “We are so thrilled at all of the work she put into this system. Hopefully we can keep the Hiller legacy on display for many years to come.”
Alderson has goals to work on uploading awards, both academic and athletic, that once filled the trophy cases.
“It would be a long process, but we are hoping to photograph all of them and upload them to the system. We are also hoping to highlight student projects and scholarship and award recipients,” Alderson explained.
Alderson and Lucas hope after a bit of time, more Trinity events will be able to be showcased on the touchscreens, such as recordings of the Morning Show and articles written by The Hiller Newspaper.
“We want the students to someday take over these touchscreens, similar to how they have with the morning show,” says Lucas.
The contribution of the new touchscreens contribute to the always advancing infrastructure of Trinity Area school district. Anyone who would like to check out the information available on the touchscreens can also visit the following website: https://www.trinitypride.org/pride
