Senior Jacob Dunkle has reached the celebrated milestone of one-thousand career points in basketball during his fourth year on Trinity’s varsity team. He is one of the few people in the school’s history to achieve this feat.
Dunkle started playing basketball in first grade, but didn’t join an official team until third grade. He became interested in the game after learning it in his elementary school gym class and through 2K14, a video game about the NBA.
In his freshman year, Dunkle helped Trinity upset the South Fayette team, a section rival, on youth night. He recalls this as his favorite memory from his time playing in the district.
Dunkle is grateful to his mom and dad for being consistent supporters of his athletics. They have invested a significant amount of money and time into securing his success.
Coaches that have trained Dunkle in the past remark that he is a very impressive player and a great person. Dunkle takes direction and criticism well, and does well to learn from the advice and tips he is given. He embodies “coachability,” valued by players and trainers alike for its power to create better athletes.
“I’m extremely proud of my high school career,” Dunkle says.
His successes in high school have prompted Dunkle to continue playing basketball. He plans to play in college at Penn State Behrend.
As a senior on his team and an admirable player, Dunkle inspires many of his younger teammates. His advice for underclassmen is to work hard and have confidence.
“The more time you put in the more you’ll get out of it, and you have to be confident that all the work you put in will show when you need it,” he says.
Dunkle has achieved his long-time goal of scoring one thousand points in basketball this year, an impressive accomplishment to top off his legacy at Trinity.
