Students find ‘hidden gems’ in Washington PA

Destination Candy offers candies, sodas and various items of clothing. There are multiple selections to choose from with many different brands and flavors available to buy.

Washington County boasts a wide variety of businesses and experiences that are unique to the area. However, many of these shops are hidden and often overlooked by locals and visitors. Here are five hidden gems to discover in Washington, PA.

The Cheerful Balloon 

Located on North Main Street, the Cheerful Balloon is a company that makes custom balloon art tailored to fit any occasion, along with other miscellaneous party supplies. This women-owned business opened in 2020 and has grown from there, although it remains unknown to most people in Washington. Frost Fairy 

Frost Fairy is most known for selling its homemade recipes of Italian ice and sorbet from a food truck at events around the county. However, most people aren’t aware of their permanent location in the Washington Crown Center Mall. They are a family-owned business that serves a variety of fun flavors and toppings. Kouzina

This Greek Bistro is connected to the George Washington Hotel and serves soups, salads, teas and more at reasonable prices. It popped up in Washington in 2021 but often goes unnoticed since it’s hidden in the hotel. Along with serving guests from 8 a.m.- to 2 p.m., they also cater for special events. Pops & Rory’s 

Pop’s & Rory’s serves foods like hamburgers, ice cream and more. They hope to bring a friendly, welcoming space to their community and are known for their customer service. It is located in Washington Crown Center Mall and is open from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m.

Destination Candy 

Destination Candy sells a wide variety of candies, popcorn and chocolate while also selling pre-made gift baskets that can be perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. They are located on Main Street and are open from 10 a.m- 6 p.m Monday through Saturday. They partner with different locally-owned businesses in Washington to assure their customers of various selections that fit their current cravings.
