Near the end of the 2024-2025 school year, Isaac Ikach was told that he would be the drum major for the marching band in the upcoming school year. This means that Ikach would be the leader of the marching band and conduct them for their upcoming performances.
Ikach started playing percussion in 7th grade. He chose percussion because he thought it sounded the coolest and he wanted to be different than his siblings. This developed into a passion for where he is today.
In the future, Ikach plans to go to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, to study Aerospace Engineering. As far his musical endeavors are concerned, Ikach plans to minor in music, and he added that music will also always be one of his hobbies.
Ikach has been inspired by many people but none more than his father: “My dad has definitely inspired me the most to pursue music throughout high school.”
Another important part of Ikach’s journey in music was the support of his friends.
“My friends have been one of my biggest supporters; even when my closest friends and I were going for drum major, we were all rooting each other on,” Ikach recalled about the competition for drum major at the end of last year.
One of those friends, Senior Carter Jobes, is also in the percussion section. He will continue with music in college where he plans to join the marching band.
Jobes remembered what Ikach did as the drum major that helped to make practices and performances better: “He was a good leader, a good instructor and he was funny.”
Trinity band teacher, Mr. Hilty, also stressed that Ikach was a good leader for the marching band. Hilty talked about how Ikach was skilled at keeping the focus during practices.
“He has a good presence. When people see him as a leader, he doesn’t second guess himself. He’s very clear and he checks for understanding,” Hilty said.
Lastly, Ikach stressed that more people should join the band. It is a great way to grow musically and learn more skills.
Be sure to support Isaac as he continues on his musical journey.
