Trinity High School Senior Gianna Stiehler has kickstarted a unique business selling banners all around Washington. Her business, “Gianna Paints,” started off in the summer, and after the abundance of success, she decided to continue through the 2025-2026 school year.
Stiehler has numerous customers asking for unique banners that have to do with different occasions, holidays or upcoming events. She made plenty for teachers welcoming their students back to school, birthday banners and banners for sporting events.
Her passion for banner making sprouted from her years of cheerleading, where all girls are required to make banners for football games to hang on the walls of Trinity. The cheerleaders have different opinions on making banners, where some love the craft and others aren’t very fond of it. Stiehler decided that because of her love of painting and her want to share creativity with others, she decided to create her banner business, “Gianna Paints.”
To further explain her inspiration for creating her business, Stiehler says, “I really liked painting banners [during cheer season] and I love to showcase my skills.”
Stiehler’s first order was from her mother, who asked her to make a banner for her classroom. She has gotten other orders to make banners for her dance studio, girls soccer, volleyball, football and more.
Stiehler expands on her first banner order, made for her mother who teaches first grade: “The first order I got was from my mom. She wanted a back-to-school banner for her classroom, and her students really liked it.”
This banner had drawings of pencils, ribbons and brightly colored stars to show the excitement of going back to school. Most of her banners have a cohesive color scheme matched with a visually appealing font and different graphics pertaining to what the banner is for.
Through social media, primarily TikTok, and word of mouth, Stiehler’s business has soared. Her business has gotten plenty of orders and she has now made hundreds of dollars off of it.
Sophomore cheerleader Gianna Pritts emphasizes the importance of banner-making: “The banners take a long time and effort to do and they should be shown lots of respect.”
