It’s spring, Hillers! And with spring, comes baseball. Throughout the year, the boys’ baseball team has been gearing up for the 2024-2025 season, and they are ready to play ball!
The coaches of the team, Head Coach Jon Stack and Assistant Coaches Jason Vankirk and Steve Polansky, have been leading the captains, Seniors Matthew Robaugh and JR Reig, and Junior Jonah Williamson along with the rest of the team through the beginning of an auspicious season.
The team’s current goals are to first win the highly competitive section championship, going up against tough teams such as Bethel Park, whom they beat for the first time in seven years on March 31, 2025, with a score of 3-2. The team is also setting their goals to win both the WPIAL and State championships.
“I believe this is our best year with the brotherhood we’ve built and we’re going to battle together and succeed,” says Sophomore Ayvari Chandler.
Chandler has recently moved from Washington High School to Trinity, where he is excelling in both academics and athletics. He has been welcomed by the baseball team with open arms and is very grateful for the opportunity to play for the Hillers.
“My teammates have always treated me great and accepted me like I’ve been here for years. I thank my teammates and coaches for always believing in me and accepting me,” states Chandler.
Practices are Wednesday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. They consist of vigorous training, which includes fielding drills, situational drills, and hitting practice. They have been training all year in preparation for the season and are ready to dominate sections and take over the WPIAL title. To qualify for WPIALs, the team will have to place in the top four in the section.
“We are definitely on pace to do so [make WPIALS] currently,” says Williamson.
With all the effort these boys are putting out on the field, the players need to take care of themselves in and out of the season. This can include various arm care workouts to ensure they are ready to go, as well as practicing footwork and batting swings.
Vankirk comments on the players’ dedication to the team: “This year’s team is one of the best Trinity has ever had. Being the third year under Coach Stack, the boys all understand what we do day in and day out. We have a very close team and they all work together. Everyone has a role on the team to help us win every game. It’s a great group to be around and coach.”
As the baseball team continues to push through the season, be sure to show some support to them by coming to the home games! Trinity plays at home on April 25, 2025, at 7 p.m. on the Ross Memorial Park field. Good luck, Trinity baseball!
