- What is your position on “The Hiller”?
I am the Editor-in-Chief and the Opinion Editor of the newspaper.
- Why did you become a part of the staff and how long have you been on it?
I took Journalism 1 freshman year and officially joined the paper my sophomore year. I became a part of the staff because I have always loved writing and I loved reading our school newspaper because it seemed so cool to me.
- Which article was your favorite and why?
My favorite articles have been “TLC gives back this holiday season” and “Students make change with V!ng” because I love writing about the kindness that surrounds our school and the inspirational students we have here at Trinity.
- How has being a part of “The Hiller” impacted you?
I have been extremely impacted by this class. This room is my home and Mrs. O’Lare is my favorite teacher. This class is a family; I have become close with all of the girls and I am going to miss them so much.
- What is your favorite memory of “The Hiller” throughout your time on staff?
My favorite memories of “The Hiller” have been the story times at the beginning of class where we have discussions and tea time.
- What have you learned from journalism?
I have learned how to become a better writer and leader. This has also taught me the power of hard work and dedication and how to truly appreciate the work that is put in to the paper.
- What will you miss most about journalism?
I will miss this family community we have. These girls are some of my closest friends and I appreciate them so much. Brainstorming is one of my favorite things about the newspaper and I love coming up with new ideas with my girls so I will definitely miss that. And obviously, I will miss Mrs. O’Lare. She has been there for all of us through the ups and downs. I am so glad I chose to take this class as a freshman so I had the opportunity to write for the newspaper and meet these people.
- What is your best word of advice for the staff members?
My best piece of advice would be to not wait until the last minute. I did this way too much over the years and it always ends in stress. The articles are way better and much easier if you begin them before the night before.
- How many red pens do you think Mrs. O’Lare has used when grading your articles?
I would say probably three; about one per year.
- Do you have anything else to add/final words to the staff members?
Bust. It. Down.
