The 2024-2025 volleyball season has started! The 27 girls on the Trinity girls volleyball team come together and work hard to make the best of their season. The team and the coaches work well together. Their team relationship shows that they are bonded and prepared for the season. The goal, as always, is playoffs.
“We need to concentrate on winning section games,” Coach Helmkamp said.
Helmkamp is the head coach for the team and the assistant coach is Coach Belleville. Helmkamp has been coaching the Trinity volleyball team for 12 years. Her pre-game ritual is watching the other team to pick up information during warm-ups. She believes that the team gets along very well and is a great group to work with.
The Seniors this year are Rylie Armstrong, Abby Stolfer, Sydney Allen, Sam Horne and Morgan Baker.
The girls practice on weekdays for two and a half hours. During these practices, they serve, hit and serve receive. They go full-out at practice and give it their all to the best of their abilities. They also condition with Coach Rizor. They separate their workout into three sections with Coach Rizor. They train by stretching, running and lifting weights. Coach Helmkamp’s favorite thing to do at practice is a fast drill game called Alabama. It is a conditioning drill for offense in free ball situations.
“My favorite thing to do at practice is hitting because I am the most talented at it,” Freshman Gabby Humphreys said.
Their games are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays with JV starting at 6:00 p.m. and varsity is at 7:30 p.m. Their biggest rivals are South Fayette and Oakland, which they faced in the same week.
Ella Sammel, a sophomore, plays middle hitter on varsity. She takes her practices and games very seriously to improve on her performance. Sammel’s favorite thing to do at practice is play games and scrimmage because it gets everyone ready for their games. Her pre-game ritual is listening to music and warming up.
Gabby Humphreys plays the other middle hitter on varsity. Her pre-game ritual is listening to music.
Students can support the Trinity girls volleyball team at their remaining regular season games. They play West Allegheny on October 3, 2024 and Thomas Jefferson on October 8, 2024, both at home in the Trinity High School gymnasium. Best of luck, ladies!
