As a newer team at Trinity High School, it can be difficult to stand out, but the girls’ golf team has exceeded expectations this year with their best performance yet!
The team outdid themselves this season, securing three wins, including the first in program history. This win came from an intense playoff match decided by a 3v3 hole against Bethel Park. Junior Saylor Kitsko and Sophomores Izzy Lesako and Finley Kitsko led the team to victory in this tied match.
Much of the success of the team can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the players, as well as the unconditional support of the coaches, Mr. Poletti and Ms. Rice. Since course availability can be limited, much of the practicing responsibilities fall to the players as individuals. However, when possible, the team practices together at Nemacolin Country Club. There, the coaches work to individualize the training to fit each player’s specific needs to make sure everyone plays at their best.
Poletti commends the effort that the girls put into practicing, saying: “They know how to stick to it, which is priceless. Golf can be a war at time, but these girls showed true grit and played hard.”
The energy of the team also inspired a spirit of determination and support, as the girls all share a close bond. When they’re out on the green, their first priority is to support each other and make sure everyone has fun.
“The closeness of the team really makes you feel comfortable. You could be nervous and stressed about a match but having a friend really helps you relax,” explains Kitsko.
The team’s bond doesn’t just help the players to improve their golf skills. The game as a whole can be a learning experience for anyone picking up a club.
Lesako comments that, “It can be a lot mentally, but you learn how to persevere. It’s never over until it’s over.”
The sportsmanship and success of Trinity’s girls’ golf team can serve as an example for everyone. After such a spectacular season, the girls’ golf team is sure to be a team to watch in the coming years.
