With the Class of 2025 graduating at the end of spring, Matthew Robaugh has announced he is attending West Virginia University (WVU), and Kaden Hathaway and Jacob Rieg have committed to Seton Hill University, all to further their baseball careers.
Robaugh has played baseball since he was three years old, and he has more than 15 years of training and experience. His dream school has always been WVU, and he chose this school mainly because of the coaches and the atmosphere.
Robaugh shares that his favorite baseball memory was “hitting a lead-off home run in my first playoff game my sophomore year. My coaches and family were so excited for me.”
He plans on training with the Battleground Baseball Group before he goes to WVU early in the summer. The Battleground Baseball Group is Western Pennsylvania’s premier player development program and facility. Training cages feature cutting-edge technology, including HitTrax, Trackman, and Rapsodo, which provide real-time batted-ball data. This is where most of the boys plan on training until attending college.
Robaugh also states that what he will miss most about playing high school baseball is “playing and training for my coaches who have become like family to me.”
Hathaway has been playing baseball for 14 years; he chose Seton Hill because of the renowned coaching staff and to play with teammate Rieg. Additionally, Hathaway has played travel ball with many current Seton Hill players and looks forward to continuing his collegiate career with them.
Hathaway reveals his favorite memory while playing baseball was “when we beat Plum in the playoffs my sophomore year.”
He also states that what he likes most about baseball is “playing with my friends/teammates that I have made over the last four years.”
Rieg informs, “I’ve been playing pretty much since I could walk,” and has continued to love the sport.
When he was younger, his original choice was Louisiana State University, but after researching the backgrounds of all of his different offers, he chose Seton Hill University because they have incredible academics and are a top 25 D2 baseball school in the country. Rieg has always wanted to go to college for baseball and is grateful for the opportunity to do so.
Rieg shares his favorite memory: “When we faced Plum in the playoffs two years ago. Jackson Burt and I combined for 11 innings to get our first playoff win in 15 years.”
To prepare for collegiate baseball, he will participate and train at the Battleground Baseball Group in Cranberry.
He says he will miss “my friends and coaches that have become family over the past four years.”
As Rieg, Robaugh and Hathaway prepare for the next step in their futures, remember to wish them all the best!
