The 2025 MLB season has started and everyone is ready to see how this year will turn out. Opening Day was March 27, 2025, with 14 games played across the league.
There are two leagues and each is divided into three divisions. There is the American League and the National League. The divisions are Central, East and West with six teams in each. These divisions are extremely competitive with each other.
Junior Zach Schrader believes the most competitive division is the National League East because the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies are one of the best rivalries in baseball today. On the other hand, middle school teacher Mr. White has a different opinion. He thinks the American League East because they have decent teams.
All of these baseball teams work hard and do their best throughout the season; however, only two out of 30 teams make it to the World Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Texas Rangers both have an elite starting lineup from top to bottom, including the pitching staff. As everyone knows, not every team makes the playoffs. White believes the Philadelphia Phillies will not make the playoffs this year.
White said, “The Phillies got lucky last year!”
Schrader’s prediction for this season is that the LA Dodgers are going to make it far in their season. In the offseason, they spent a lot of money on their team. White also thinks that the LA Dodgers are going to make it a long way in the season.
During games, the fans and atmosphere are a key aspect to any team’s performance. There’s always fans who are rowdy and cheerful for their team and also fans who don’t appreciate their team as much as they should. The Oakland Athletics are seen as the worst fans because they have had the lowest attendance rate in the last couple years. The St. Louis Cardinals are viewed as the best fans because they are loyal and passionate about their team.
Recently, a new piece of equipment, the torpedo bat, has been creating controversy. It is shaped like a bowling pin, at 34 inches long and weighing 32 ounces. It distributes the wood in a different shape than a normal baseball bat. The way this bat is made helps the player strike the ball off of the bat stronger and get a better hit. There has been talk in the MLB that these bats should be banned. During the New York Yankees second game, they scored 20 runs while being the first team to use these new torpedo bats.
Schrader said, “The Yankees took advantage of them first and it works with them well. I don’t think they should be banned because it meets the qualifications and dimensions for a bat.”
