Within the wide variety of teachers at Trinity, Señora Harrington is a well-known teacher by the student body. Not only is she the Spanish I, III and IV teacher, she is also the Senior Class advisor. Her teaching style is enticing in many ways, and her personality carries positivity and makes students desire to learn more.
Although English is her first language, Harrington has always had a love for Spanish.
Harrington took Spanish since Kindergarten, and continued to study it throughout high school and college. She then studied abroad her sophomore year of college, the same year she changed her major to Spanish and her minor to Portuguese.
“I always wanted to work with kids, and Spanish has always been a fun subject to me. I loved not only the language but also the culture of the different countries,” stated Harrington.
Harrington has worked at Trinity for 13 years, and she plans on staying here until retirement.
She described her job, saying: “I love working here. My favorite part of teaching is being able to build relationships with the students. I enjoy having a good rapport with the students that I teach. It’s more than just teaching, it’s about making those special connections with each person.”
Harrington has made her job a home in many ways. Not only does she build relationships with students, but she also has good colleagues at the school. Psychology teacher Mrs. McCarthy and Harrington have been close friends ever since McCarthy began working at Trinity in 2017.
“Her ability to connect with her students is amazing. She is able to make learning feel personal and meaningful, which has a huge impact. Whether it’s through her approachability, how she tailors lessons to engage everyone or the way she inspires confidence in her students, her strong personal connection transforms her classroom experience. Students always feel comfortable asking questions and tend to enjoy a subject that they might have found difficult or intimidating before. Señora Harrington is able to create a space where students feel respected, heard and challenged in a positive way, that’s a quality that sets her apart,” exclaimed McCarthy.
Harrington’s teaching style leads students to wanting to learn more and more. She not only teaches the language but also the culture, the people and the geography of Spanish-speaking countries.
“I am so grateful for Señora. She really has a passion for teaching Spanish, and she wants us to learn as much as she can teach. She really is a great teacher and a great person,” said Junior Chloe Bricker, a Spanish IV student.
Harrington teaches all students of all grade levels and of all abilities. She works very passionately for a fun, hardworking classroom environment, and she has a great time doing it.
