One of the best parts of every student’s summer is going on vacation. Whether it’s traveling to a beach or to a city, escaping the hometown normalcy and letting go of all troubles in a relaxing environment is one thing many people look forward to.
When someone thinks of summer vacation, most think of the beach and the tropical weather it brings. According to an article by Forbes, the top trending places for Americans to travel in the summer were mostly to the coast with warm weather, number one being Cancun, Mexico.
Staff Writer Georgia Poach visited Playa del Carmen, Mexico, with her family in 2018. Out of all of the Spanish-speaking countries she’s been to, Mexico is a personal favorite of hers.
“I have a lot of great memories there, a lot of singing and dancing. The beaches were really nice and I made friends there. Everything was much cheaper there than here [the United States] and the people were more in touch with their culture,” Poach described.
Beach vacations are recommended for people with kids or families, as there is much more to do and more activities in beach cities. Destinations such as Outer Banks, NC; Hilton Head, SC; and Ocean City, NJ, are meant to be family-friendly places and strive to be as safe as possible.
Some people vacation in different places every year, while others never get sick of going to the same location year after year. Most of these people own homes where they love to vacation or they rent out condominiums for however long they would like to stay.
Bella Feriozzi, a staff writer for The Hiller, visits Ocean City, New Jersey, multiple times a year; her grandparents own a beach house on the island and her whole family is from South Jersey.
Feriozzi explains, “It’s like home to me. I basically grew up there and it’s my favorite place because of its beach, boardwalk and food.”
For people who want a change of scenery completely, the cruise industry has been growing rapidly due to its many benefits. Cruises allow people to visit a number of places in minimal time and there is less stress when planning, as there are usually packages involved with cruise lines.
Staff Writer Elena Fonner embarked on a Royal Caribbean cruise with her friends and family this past summer and it was nothing but a great experience for her.
“I felt like I had more free reign on the ship. It gave my mom a chance to explore the cruise without keeping an eye on me. On other vacations I’ve been on, my family and I had so much planned and were on a tight schedule. On a cruise, you could go through the day so freely and do anything on your own,” Fonner said.
Fonner suggests cruises to anyone looking for a new experience and anybody wanting to see many locations in little time.
Not everyone travels to the same place, but there is one common measure everyone must complete before going on vacation: packing a suitcase. Some essentials that the staff require for their suitcase are swimsuits, hair products and toiletries.
Summer is approaching swiftly and people are determined to gain back their tans. As much as having fun is important, make sure to stay safe in these unknown environments!
