As the boys’ volleyball season approached, it was highly recommended that the boys participate in Coach Rizor’s workouts, practices and exclusive workouts from home, which helped them prepare for this season. The team practices five days a week. The practices are normally two hours long, and the boys state that it is helpful to show up to all practices and make time to work out from home.
They also work on having good team chemistry by hanging out on weekends or after practices during the week, which improves their performance on the court.
This year’s team is led by Coach Myers and Coach Roberts, who help the team stay motivated throughout the season. Six seniors are on the team this season: Sam Pearson, Andy Palm, Darius Clark, Talan Gardner, Ryan Torboli and Luke Thornburg. Recently, Seniors Pearson and Gardner were named varsity team captains. The captains and coaches keep the team close and working hard no matter what kind of season they are having.
Aside from the team aiming to make it to States, the boys have set some personal goals as well.
Sophomore Nate Muncie says, “I am looking forward to getting better at my hitting and passing skills.”
Muncie has been playing volleyball for a year now and will continue to play throughout high school. He recommends joining this aspiring team; It has completely changed his social life.
Junior Bryce Bailes states, “I want to have a winning record and be more involved on the team, in and out of practice.”
Bailes’s favorite volleyball memory was “The team making playoffs every season that I have been on the team has been the highlight of my time shared on the team”.
The boys are looking forward to getting extra competitive when they have their yearly games against Thomas Jefferson High School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, their rival schools. The games against the two schools are always close in score and the most competitive. They played Thomas Jefferson at home on the 25th.
