Spring is known around the world for fresh starts and new beginnings. It stands to reason that the same idea would apply to high school athletics. After months of preparation, the Trinity High School boys’ lacrosse team is ready to head into an extraordinary season.
The players’ dedication to their sport is apparent throughout the year, even in the off-season when they’re left to their own devices to put in the effort and stay in shape. Most of the players spend their summers engaged in club lacrosse to make sure they’re staying sharp for the regular season, even through it doesn’t start until spring. As a team, the Trinity boys come together three times throughout the summer to compete in off-season tournaments.
Summer is just the beginning to the season, though. This year, the boys are ready to go head first into the game and dominate the competition.
Junior Jack McCain explains that, “It’s really noticeable this year that our team is more professional than it has been. We get along better than we have in previous years. We’re very supportive of each other and we’re ready to win.”
When there’s still a chill in the air, the players stay fit with winter conditioning. During the regular season, it’s game on. The team practices Monday through Friday, working through conditioning, team building, live practices and reviewing mistakes made in previous games and practices.
The time commitment is extensive, with most practices lasting from 7-9 p.m. On Mondays and Wednesdays, however, the team trains even longer, working out with Coach Rizor starting at 6:30 p.m. then heading into regular practices.
Attitude is a big part of success, and the Hillers are playing to win! The team is intent on securing a playoff spot and plans to rely on teamwork, skill and perseverance to get them there.
“I hope the players I coach learn how to value and respect their time, to identify and take advantage of opportunities, to know it’s okay to lean on others when we need help and to let others lean on us when they need help,” says Coach Anthony Sivie.
Led by Sivie and Seniors Gianni Moschetta, Jack Dufalla, Wyatt Rodgers, E.J. Polito, Caden Bazzoli, Nico Mauro and Cullen Bresselsmith, the team is a brotherhood of like-minded athletes pursuing success.
“We’re all best friends. We work so well together because every gets along and gets involved,” comments Sophomore Rocco Moschetta.
As the season gears up, the boys anticipate putting on a show for fans. They especially look forward to facing off against Cannon Mac, their local rivals. The two teams play a good game every year that is sure to delight fans of either school. Catch this thrilling match up on March 29, 2025!
The team hopes to see their fellow Hillers show out and support them throughout the season, so don’t let them down! Be there to see the team in action at their next home game against Wheeling Central on March 27, 2025!
