Hold on to those seats, movie lovers! The spring season is coming, bringing many new movies to theaters.
As the cinematic world continues to expand, directors and actors are participating in all genres, from action to romance, from comedy to horror. Here’s a look at some of the most anticipated movies that are expected to hit the theaters soon, whether they are new, sequels or remakes.
On March 21, 2025, the remake of “Disney’s Snow White” began showing. A live-action retelling of the simple tale of the princess Snow White, played by actress Rachel Zegler, who runs away from her evil stepmother, played by Gal Gadot, where Zegler runs into seven dwarves. Directed by Marc Webb, many people have been awaiting the remake of Snow White after other Disney live-action hits, such as “Cinderella,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Another live-action film expected to follow “Snow White” is “Lilo and Stitch,” a story that follows the unique friendship between a little girl and an alien stranded in Hawaii, with other aliens chasing after them. This twist of science fiction and comedy is set to come out on May 23, 2025, and is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp.
Disney is not the only Animation Franchise that will be receiving a live-action film this year. DreamWorks is also coming out with a remake of “How to Train Your Dragon,” which will be in theaters on June 13, 2025. With actor Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid, this movie begins with a Viking who befriends a dragon named Toothless, and they work together to overcome prejudice and become friend, as well as to fight off a danger that puts both species at risk. This fantasy and action movie is directed by Dean DeBlois and will make history as the first DreamWorks live-action adaptation.
Marvel is also expected to reach various movies this year, which includes “Thunderbolts*” Releasing May 2, 2025, this action movie is about a group of supervillians who were rounded up by the government to embark on various missions. With Florence Pugh starring as Black Widow, Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, many superhero fans await the upbringing of this movie, because there are more features of their favorite characters.
Finally, one of the most anticipated movies of the spring season is “A Minecraft Movie.” This mix of adventure and comedy film follows four unsuspecting figures who get swallowed into the Overworld, and they have to go on a magical journey through this cubic world to get back home. With Jack Black starring as the beloved video-game character, “Steve,” this movie is a spin-off of the popular game made in 2011, leaving many people who grew up playing this game excited to watch the movie adaptation, while others are worried that the movie will not do the game justice. The movie is set for release on April 4, 2025, and the seats of every movie theater are expected to be filled.
“While I think it might not be very good as its probably just a cash grab for kids because of Jack Black, I will 100% still be seeing it in theaters and I will be dressing up,” says junior Aliyah Emery.
