As the boys’ wrestling season began, they started strong at their first tournament, the Trinity Hiller Duals. Since then, the boys have set significant goals for themselves both individually and as a team, such as making it to states and WPIALs; they will continue to train hard in and out of practice to achieve this.
During the pre-season, the boys attended workouts and practices after school from October through November before mandatory practices started in December. The mandatory practices are five to six days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and occasionally Friday. The practices are normally two hours long, but if it is a prep day for a tournament, they take longer, which has helped the team maintain good scores so far this season.
This season, the boys’ are coached by Ron Tarquinio, Tristin Buxton and Hayden Migyanko. The coaches always have a major impact on each wrestler and inspire them to be better every day. This year the team is captained by Senior TJ Allison, Junior Dominic Canali and Sophomore Jacob Wright.
Aside from the team aiming to make it to WPIALs, the boys have set a few personal goals as well for this season.
Wright states “My personal goals for this season would be to do better in individuals and make it to states.”
Wright’s season record is currently 23-10, with his best performance taking place at his favorite tournament, the Panther Classic tournament, held on the Mount Aloysius College campus.
Junior Behr Bruckner states, “My biggest personal goals would include being ranked within the top six at sections and making it to WPIALs.”
Bruckner’s record is 21-9 and his favorite tournament so far was the Berkshire Battle for the Belt tournament, not only because he won, but also because he got to take home the belt!
Catch the boys at their next tournament which is on February 28 at 5:00 PM at Canon-McMillian High School Gym!
