The 2024 – 2025 girls’ basketball season has come to an end! There are 21 girls on the team with three seniors, four juniors, eight sophomores and six freshmen. The seniors and team captains are Madison Justice, Samantha Horne and Riley Venick. The basketball team did well this season and their record is 10-9.
“We have had a lot of growth and improvement and I’m proud of the seniors for leading,” said Coach Poletti.
Poletti is the girls basketball coach along with Coach Belleville and Coach McCarthy as the assistant coaches. He enjoys doing defensive drills with the team at their practices. Poletti also loves to see his team get along as well as they do. Venick says her teammates are like sisters to her.
At practice, the skills they work on depend on the day. They work on shooting, skill work, go through offensive and defensive strategies, individual skills, conditioning and more. Before games, they go through scouting, which is when a professional who watches over the players who are skilled enough to play after high school, running plays and prepare for the team they are going to play against. The practices usually end up being two hours, but they are sometimes cut to an hour and a half. The team practices six days a week and has sports performance training with Coach Rizor two times a week for 30 to 45 minutes.
Sophomore Sutton Williamson said, “We do some intense strengthening with Coach Rizor. We get a good workout in.”
The basketball team’s last games were on February 6, 2025 against Uniontown and February 10, 2025, against Seton La Salle. They won both games. Before games, Poletti says the team has a stretch together, warm up for ten to twelve minutes, meet in the locker room to go over plays and scouting, do the national anthem and introduce players as their pre-game ritual.
Coach Poletti says that he is proud of the team for working hard everyday. With this season coming to an end, the girls played their best.
