Artificial Intelligence, otherwise known as “AI,” is a type of technology that helps humans with learning, problem solving and more. As it advances, it is being used around the world for many different uses. Most believe only good comes with AI, but unfortunately, this isn’t always true.
When it comes to daily tasks, they can be repetitive. For example, sending emails, showing work by writing work scripts, answering telephone calls and scheduling appointments are tasks that need to be completed everyday. AI increases human efficiency and frees up employee time by having AI do these tasks for them.
Also, AI can help with human error by checking for human accuracy. It alerts humans about simple grammatical mistakes in their writing so they can correct it before submitting. AI can also automatically make the correction when it’s necessary. Eighty-five percent of people think AI is better and easier for them according to KPMG international website.
Mr. McCartney is a business computer teacher here at THS. He says that AI is very relevant and can provide information when asking a question. However, he also cautions that the sources AI pulls from may not be legitimate.
McCartney states, “AI could be wrong from resources like Wikipedia.”
AI can use the wrong websites and give incorrect information. Along with this, AI sometimes needs to shut down so it can run more efficiently.
Since ChatGPT, Grammarly and other websites were released, AI has been used by students to write essays, complete homework assignments, and more. In a workplace, AI can compose emails, create advertisements, write business plans and more. Because of this, human jobs are starting to be eliminated and replaced. According to the TeamStage website, AI has already taken away 1.7 million jobs since the 2000s because of engineers now building smart, human-like robots. Additionally, AI takes away the creativity and emotion that humans incorporate into tasks. It destroys and eliminates the human element.
AI can get hacked and things could go wrong. By 2027, cyber-attacks will rise by 17% according to the website Customer Experience Magazine. McCartney says that anyone who has watched the movie “Terminator” will understand. AI could start thinking for itself and do whatever it wants.
When it comes to AI, it can be helpful but also dangerous.
