Lights, camera, action! The 82nd annual Golden Globes aired on January 5, 2025, in the famous city of Hollywood, California. Celebrity actors and actresses made their way to the event in their Sunday best as they anxiously awaited for the awards ceremony.
The first Golden Globes ceremony was fairly different from the one fans know today. The awards presentation was only for distinguished achievements in the film industry, instead of both TV and movies. The idea of the trophy with a globe was introduced the following year as Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association president Marina Cisternas thought it should represent the world. The awards show has adapted in many ways in the past 82 years, but it still captures the eyes of film and television lovers.
Stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser was chosen to be the show’s host and she was honored for the opportunity. Having a female solo host is a rare occurrence, as the hosts were usually duos and solo males.
She was ecstatic when she heard the news, telling Jimmy Fallon on his show that this was a “life-changing” opportunity.
Celebrities filled the red carpet with looks ranging from simple to extremely complex. Nominee Zendaya wore a classic brown silk gown on the carpet while “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo wore a uniquely shaped dress with an extraordinary pattern.
Many fans were satisfied with the winners of the awards, but others were shocked with the results.
Senior Ava Coffman said that she was shocked with the success of “‘Emila Perez.’ I haven’t seen the movie, in all honesty, but I didn’t even know it was a thing until the Golden Globes.”
International Film “Emilia Perez” won awards including “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy,” “Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language” and “Best Original Song – Motion Picture.” Actress Zoe Saldaña won “Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture” for the film.
Many other successful actors added more awards to their impressive resume including Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama winner Adrian Brody. Actress Demi Moore also made history as she won her first Golden Globe for “The Substance.”
Senior Haelyn Noderer explained that she thinks that “Jeremy Allen White definitely deserved his win for ‘The Bear.’ I love that show and he does a good job portraying his character.”
As the year of movies has officially come to an end, fans reflect back on the past year’s films and look forward to what is yet to come.
