Working during the Christmas season isn’t always a happy tradition. That may be because many people don’t enjoy the work they do. Although making money over the holidays can be a tough task, there are several ways to make working over the holiday season an enjoyable experience.
A great way to make cash is to help your neighbors! One of the most common ways to make money is by shoveling and salting their sidewalks and driveways.
Older neighbors are almost always looking for assistance, whether it be shoveling snow or taking groceries inside. Helping them can not only brighten their days, but could lead to a money-making opportunity.
“If you have older neighbors, you should definitely look into helping them during these winter months,” says Sophomore Blake Stanley.
One of the most difficult aspects of working is that people don’t always enjoy what they do. A great way to earn a quick buck is to take a favorite holiday activity, like baking cookies, and think of how to make money from it! Local fairs and parks host festivals where stands are set up for people to sell what they make. From baked goods to woodcarvings to jewelry, these are great ways to make a little extra cash.
Junior Katherine Drezewski states, “Since I love to make gingerbread houses, I could sell them to people as replicas of their own houses.”
A scary part of working over the holidays is the unsafe driving conditions due to the cold weather. People can get around this obstacle by working from home. There are many ways to earn cash online; whether it be from selling baked goods or gently-used clothes, students can easily make money while laying in bed. Shipping items straight from home is easy to do, and it keeps people out of the cold.
Sophomore John Bunner says, “you could make ornaments and sell them online.”
Making money over the holidays can be an enjoyable experience. Even though there can be obstacles, such as winter weather, there is always a way to make something happen and to make it fun. Stay safe over the holidays and have a great winter break!
