Q: What subjects and grades do you teach?
A: I teach art. Grades are 9-12.
Q: Why did you pursue your career in art?
A: I started taking art classes and became really interested in them. I took design classes and others and had fun in those classes.
Q: How was the transition from the middle school to the high school?
A: The transition from the middle school to the high school was surprising and unexpected. Moving into the school was a very fast process.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about the high school and why?
A: My favorite thing about the high school is the students. I had them all in middle school and they are a lot more mature now then they were. It is nice to see them now that they are older.
Q: What’s one thing you would change about the high school and why?
A: I wish I had the ability to get more students. I enjoyed being able to see everyone and teach them at the middle school.
Q: Do you think high school students are easier to deal with than middle school students and why?
A: Yes and no. The high school students can work more independently and they also have a higher skill level. However, they aren’t as interested in following directions and doesn’t care as much about what the teacher says.
Q: How are middle school and high school different?
A: At the middle school, students only had art class for 30 days, so it was difficult to get projects done.
Q: Is teaching different from the middle school and how do you teach now?
A: Teaching is now a little different. The high school students have the ability to make better projects since they have the class for longer. The middle school needed a lot more help with the projects.
Q: What projects are your classes currently working on?
A: We are working on room design, grid drawings, editorial drawings for articles, color focus in photography and an Andy Warhal project.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: As much as I miss the faculty at the middle school, the high school staff has been very welcoming. I am settling in nicely.
