After months of demanding practices and challenging matches, the Trinity High School girls’ tennis team’s season has finally come to an end.
The team practiced every day after school, excluding match days, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. These practices were designed to bring the team together, improve the players’ skills and prepare players for their matches throughout the season.
Practices involved splitting into groups based on skill levels, playing games, hitting off of the ball machine or performing drills.
This year, the team was led by Senior Captains Kelsey Flynn and Ava Bowman as well as the two coaches Mr. Stoner and Ms. Finley. The coaches and captains contributed to the encouraging and welcoming atmosphere within the team.
Junior Faith Hohn says, “Our Coaches, Ms. Finley and Mr. Stoner, influenced us to work hard and apply corrections in our matches.”
The team’s skills weren’t the only thing being cultivated during the many hours on the courts. The girls on the team formed many important friendships and developed a profound bond as a whole.
Freshman Jane Bieranoski joined the team after hearing about how welcoming the older girls were. After joining, she found that to be true.
“Varsity and JV are both really close. We switched partners a lot in practice and we were all together for bus rides,” says Bieranoski.
It is always sad when it comes time to say goodbye to the seniors, including Bowman, Flynn, Amity Strope, Zoe Kumpfmiller, Katie Davis, Lila Briggs, Elizabeth Engle, Milena Hrutkay, Josey Dzikowski, Lyndsay Berry and Allie Ewbank, but the team is being left in good hands.
Flynn says, “Even though our section is always difficult, I’m confident that the girls will continue to be hardworking and successful.”
With a bright future for the girls’ tennis team, be sure to support the Hillers next season!
