Q: Why did you choose to pursue a career in education?
A: Initially, I was planning to major in Political Science, but I fell in love with my English literature courses as an undergraduate student and took a different path. After graduating with a degree in English and minoring in Psychology, I decided that I wanted to share my love of literature and the written word with students. I had quite a few influential teachers in my lifetime who helped to shape me into the person that I am today, and I want to be that person for my students.
Q: Do you have any previous teaching experience? If yes, how does Trinity differ from places you’ve worked before?
A: I’ve always taught at Trinity, though I taught eighth grade English for almost 20 years, so I’m “new” to the high school. So far, I’m enjoying the high school atmosphere and working with American Literature.
Q: What is your favorite part of teaching?
A: My favorite part of teaching is getting to know my students. They make me smile and I love getting to interact with them as individuals. I appreciate the opportunity to help them as they find their way. I also love sharing good stories, poems and plays with my students and exploring life’s “big questions.”
Q: Did anything specific draw you to Trinity as a place of employment? If so, what?
A: I did my student teaching at Trinity. In a fun twist of fate, I student taught 11th grade American Literature, and now I’ve come full circle! When I finished my student teaching, there were several open English positions, and I was lucky enough to be hired for one of them.
Q: What subjects/grades do you teach?
A: I teach 11th grade English (American Literature).
Q: How has your experience at the High School been so far?
A: It has been an adjustment but the students and staff have been extremely welcoming and helpful. I have really enjoyed getting to see my former students “all grown up.”
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A: Charge your Chromebooks. Read a book. Be kind.
