In recent years, fashion trends have come and gone rapidly, with teens leading the style changes. One thing that comes back around every year, however, is classic fall fashion. Even though fashion fads shift with time, most people have a quintessential autumnal wardrobe.
Junior Cicely Sunseri shares that her must-haves this season are a good pair of jeans and UGGs. One of her favorite fashion trends at the moment is a cute ruffle sock paired with a pair of comfy UGGs. Being such a simple basic, UGG slippers have been a fall staple for years and can effectively upgrade an outfit.
Other shoes that are currently popular include Adidas Sambas, which can be bought in a variety of fall colors and pair well with baggy jeans or a classic jean shirt.
Mary Jane shoes have also gained popularity recently, and there’s so much variation that buyers can always find something for themselves. Although they’re sometimes too bulky for summertime outfits, they pair well with maximalist fall fashion.
“Fall keeps getting warmer every year, so I like long skirts and having plenty of overcoats and cardigans,” shares Senior Maggie Francis.
Fall has been toasty so far this year, and it’s been hard to get away from shorts and t-shirts. Francis offers a helpful way to still curate a fall wardrobe while still considering the weather and the aesthetic of fall. Long-skirts are a must-have, since they aren’t too hot but still convey the spirit of the season.
There’s a wide range of places to buy this wardrobe as well.
Sunseri comments, “I’m loving PacSun right now. I feel like they have good basics and I really love their Brandy Melville section.”
“I like Abercrombie,” states Junior Matthew Berton. “I like their t-shirts and their clothes are comfortable.”
Aside from these stores, Francis recommends thrifting at the local Goodwill or City Mission. Buyers can find super unique pieces at secondhand shops, whether it be jewelry, shoes, purses or clothes.
Other stores that feature unique clothes are Freepeople, Urban Outfitters and Anthropology. All of these retailers have a wide range of styles they cater to and can make wearers stand out.
Francis is also looking forward to the chillier weather coming, sharing, “I’m happy to be leaving shorts and t-shirts behind because I’m not able to layer my clothes during summer.”
Other accessories one can add to an outfit would be statement necklaces, funky shoes, big earrings or fun hair decorations. These can be found anywhere, ranging from Amazon to Designer Consignor, and can upgrade any look if properly styled.
In regards to what he accessories with, Burton shares, “My chains. My mom got them for me from a flea market in Florida.”
This goes to show that hidden gems can be found anywhere with a good eye and a style set in mind.
Another thing that requires a good eye is picking the perfect fall colors. Francis thinks of earthy colors, like brown and dark green, while Sunseri recommends deeper colors, like red and black.
Extra layers are also crucial as fall gets into the cooler months. Articles like Carhartt cargo jackets, leather jackets, colorful cardigans and hoodies from stores such as Hollister can ensure wearers are warm while still being fashionable. Since skinny jeans seem to be falling out of style, baggy jeans are a perfect alternative to stay out of the cool breeze and still maintain a stylish outfit.
There’s a million different ways to bring personal style and fun into outfits during all seasons, but fall is a special time where fashionistas can tuck away their summer wardrobe and flaunt their fall spirit.
