The first month of school is always different for everyone. It’s freshmen’s first days of high school and sophomores’ first year of AP classes. Juniors are officially upperclassmen and seniors are celebrating their last year here at Trinity. However, all students can strive to share one thing: the desire to excel in high school.
Knowing where to start can help make for a successful school year. The best way to get advice is usually from students who have already gone through their high school experience. Thankfully, The Hiller staff are in a variety of grades, each one offering some solid advice for students to do their best this year.
The first thing students can do to set themselves up for success is to pick up good habits. Learning helpful customs is a way to become more accountable for school. Try to become more independent and organized. Items like planners and alarms can help students stay on track. They’re not only a good habit for school, but also for life in general.
“Always do your best in every single class no matter what. You need to put your best foot forward,” Senior Leah Kubacka comments.
Next, a great way to be successful is testing! Sophomores are eligible to take the PSAT, while juniors and seniors can take the SAT and ACT. Taking the test early allows students to study for them before school becomes hectic. Testing earlier also lets students retake the SAT and ACT as often as needed. Although many schools don’t require SATs or ACTs, they still stand out to colleges and can be used for other educational opportunities.
Another great way for students to be successful this year is to have role models within the school. Whether it be teachers, staff or even upperclassmen, having someone to look up to can help in the long run.
“Mrs. Child is a very well-spoken and organized person. She is a person that would help if you needed it,” Sophomore Lita Feriozzi recommends.
Taking classes that will improve different skills would be beneficial both inside and outside of school. Many electives offered here at Trinity provide opportunities for students to learn new abilities. Classes such as Public Speaking and JournalismⅠbuild social and writing skills while also boosting self-confidence.
In the end, everyone’s plan to succeed looks different. Whatever it may be, students should be sure to put the effort in, but avoid burning themselves out.
