Now that Trinity’s winter sports have come to an end, members of the boys’ lacrosse team are picking up their sticks and getting ready for another successful season.
“I can’t wait to finish off this season and win,” Captain Jack Pan comments.
They have been hosting optional practices for weeks, but their season officially started on March 11, 2024, with a scrimmage against Winchester. Significant games during the season include ones against Moon Area, Freeport Area and the toughest team to beat, Canon-Mac. The boys are excited to play another season and hope to get many wins this year.
To ensure this season is successful, the lacrosse team works hard every week, Monday-Friday. Practices include lifting on Wednesdays and Fridays, stick work and other essential skills every day to ensure they are in the best shape possible to guarantee success. They finish off practices with six verses six scrimmages, which offer some friendly competition between teammates, more development of their skills and increased team spirit.
Lacrosse is not just a sport; it’s also a way for players to blow off some steam, stay in shape, make life-long friends and learn vital life skills that will be important in the future.
“It’s a fun, awesome activity to do outside of school and it gets you in good shape,” Pan says.
In addition to practices and games, the boys participate in the annual Pineapple Bowl, which is a seven-on-seven tournament with short sticks that tests each team’s dedication to the sport. This year, it took place on February 25, 2024. The Trinity boys were the champions for the third year in a row.
This season’s seniors and team captains are Pan and Dominic DeRubbo, and the team is coached by Coach Sive. Many of the other lacrosse players look up to these seniors as inspiration on not only how to play the game, but also for other life skills that they will remember forever. They will be missed by everyone on the team.
To support this year’s lacrosse team, fans can come and support the players at any of their home and away games to cheer the players on or participate in any future fundraiser the team may hold. The first home game is on April 6, 2024, against Baldwin, played at the TMS stadium starting at noon. Let’s go, Hillers!
