Trinity High School certainly isn’t lacking in musical talent. With star power performances from Arwen Ikatch, Noah Davis, Dresden Bouman and many others, the 2024 production of “The Sound of Music” is sure to be a show that leaves the audience speechless.
Director Mrs. Child shares that the choice to perform this particular show was a group effort and the decision was ultimately made to highlight the beauty of the classic show.
Senior Noah Davis, who is portraying Captain Georg Von Trapp, says, “‘The Sound of Music’ is widely considered one of the greatest musicals ever made. It is a Tony-winning musical and an Oscar-winning movie. The show contains some of the best music to be put on the stage. When it was originally released, it was different from anything else and was groundbreaking for its time. It still holds up to this day. Our production has an incredibly talented cast with Arwen Ikach, one of the most insanely talented people I know, Dresden Bouman, J.W. Jobes and all of the other cast members who have worked to bring this show to life and make it what it is. Mrs. Child, Mr. Komula and Mr. Hilty have done amazing jobs to imbue a sense of magic into the play in a breathtaking way. This is going to be one of the best things that this school has ever put on.”
Ever since the decision to perform “The Sound of Music” was made, students and advisors have given their all to perfect their performance with practices two to three times a week, with the occasional Saturday practice. According to Child, these practices consist of blocking out where the actors need to be in each scene and practicing choreography and music. They’ll learn the music on different days, and about a month or so in, they start running through the show in order. By the time they get to a month before the show, everyone has learned all of their lines, they know their music and Child can spend rehearsal time fine-tuning what’s going on onstage.
With all of the time spent preparing for the production, the cast has become a tight knit group.
Sophomore Caden Miller, who is portraying Rolf Gruber, says, “Everyone in the cast gets along very well and we act like a family. This is seen onstage with the connection between the Von Trapp family. Spending all of these hours together really helps us grow closer together and showcase the connections between our characters.”
All of the cast’s hard work will be available to the public on February 29 and March 1, March 2 and March 3. Tickets are on sale now and cost $11 per ticket. Don’t forget to show your support for the Trinity High School theater department!
