The girls’ softball team poses on a field in Orlando after practicing for their game. The varsity team won three out of four of the games in the tournament. Congratulations girls!

As the season progresses, the girls’ softball team is making great progress. After traveling to Florida and winning the first game in their section, the girls’ season is looking bright.

The team has been practicing hard during the pre-season to achieve a successful record this year. At practices they run infield and outfield drills such as hitting, bunting and coverages. When weather permits, the team practices on the softball field at the middle school; if not, the team heads to the gym at Trinity West to practice hitting. Practices are held Monday through Friday and usually last from 3:00 p.m. to around 5:30-6:00 p.m.

Last year, the girls ended the season with an overall record of 16-3. This year, the team’s three senior captains are Kristina Bozek, Addison Agnew and Amber Morgan. The girls played their first section game at home on Monday, April 3, 2023.  The girls won their game which was a great start to their season. While talking with Morgan and Agnew, they said that the team’s goal for the season is to win games and be section champions. Junior Finley Hohn says her goal for herself is to hit a homerun for the school team since she has not yet. She also hopes for the team to make it deep into the playoffs.

When talking about the season goals, Agnew said that another goal of hers for the team is to “kill the opposing teams with our hitting.”

The JV and varsity teams both recently traveled to Florida to play in a tournament. The girls met at the high school at 2:30 a.m and then drove to the airport to catch their 5:30 a.m. flight to Orlando. While in Florida, the teams collectively played eight games, visited Universal Parks, hung out at their vacation house and played many games of “chicken fights” in the pool in which Agnew and Morgan were announced the “chicken fight champions.”

With all of the time they spend together at games and practices, the team always has time to bond and have fun together leading to them all being good friends with very close-knit relationships. Hohn says that her favorite part of being on the team is having a good record with a winning team.

“These girls have really come to be my best friends. Having a close relationship with everyone has helped us work better on the field,” explained Hohn.

Congratulations to the softball team on all of their accomplishments so far! Good luck on the rest of the season, girls!
