Prom is an exciting time for everyone, and picking the perfect prom dress is the first big step. Trinity is excited for this year’s Great Gatsby prom!

Prom can be pretty expensive these days: after getting the dress, shoes, jewelry, hair and makeup, the costs start to add up quickly. Shopping for the biggest school dance of the year should be fun and exciting, not stressful or causing worrying about how much the total is going to come out to.

There are many alternatives to expensive dress stores where you can shop locally and find your perfect gown. Tina’s Consignment Shop in Washington is a great place to start. From dresses to shoes to jewelry, prom-goers can find exactly what they are looking for from anywhere between $50 to $200 dollars. Macy’s or Windsor, located in South Hills Village Mall, are great options to shop if you are on a budget.

If you are the creative type and know how to sew, create your own dress or revamp an already existing one that might not be quite your style. Goodwill or any local thrift store has many dresses that can be upcycled into something beautiful and unique. This way, you are assured to be the only one in that dress!

In addition, there are many online boutiques where you can find affordable prom dresses. Lulu’s and Lucy In The Sky offer a wide variety of styles and colors, and you are bound to find something you like on either of those two websites for prom.

Students who are still need aid in finding the proper prom attire can visit Mrs. Frazee, room 225, or Mrs. Thornburg, room 213, and ask about the dress and formal shoe collection they have available for students at Trinity. There is a diverse collection of different styles, colors and sizes.

Mrs. Frazee says, “You can come and stop by mine or Mrs. Thornburg’s room and let us know what you need, it will stay completely anonymous.”

Prom is on May 19, 2023, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Meadowlands; it starts at 5:30 p.m. and will last roughly four and a half hours. Tickets are $65. The theme of this year’s prom is The Great Gatsby and the Roaring Twenties, and entails classy black and gold decor. It is not necessary to dress appropriately to the theme of the dance. It is just a fun option to dress up like in the 1920s.
