Chase, the current Editor-in-Chief of The Hiller newspaper, has also served as its Co-Editor-in-Chief and Assistant Editor-in-Chief.
1.What is your current position on “The Hiller” staff?
The Editor-in-chief and the Opinion section editor.
2. How long have you been on staff and why did you join?
This is my fourth year being on staff, and I wanted to join because I wanted to find kind of a creative outlet in high school. I knew some of the people on staff at the time and knew that it was a good group of people.
3. What is your favorite memory from your time on staff and why?
Probably filming “The Office” video [freshman year]. That was just a good introduction to people I didn’t know very well yet.
4. What will you miss most about “The Hiller”?
Probably just the people. It’s been a really good group, and it’s been fun to work with everyone and get to know them.
5. Do you have a favorite article you wrote and why?
Honestly, just all of the What Would Chelsea Dos. I just think it’s a fun column for fun topics, and I like being able to put my own opinions in them.
6. What do you think is the most important thing you have learned from your time on staff and why?
I think I’ve just learned to work better with other people and just learned to see other people’s sides better.
7. What advice would you give to underclassman who are interested in exploring journalism or joining The Hiller staff?
I would say try it. The worst that can happen is you decide you don’t like it. Or you could discover a good group of friends and that you like writing. I think there is usually a greater amount of positive outcomes than negative.
8. Do you have any plans for after graduation?
I am attending Colorado School of Mines for materials and metallurgical engineering.
9. What book or series had the largest impact on you growing up and why?
Probably the “Harry Potter” books because I think it was kind of my first introduction to adult-level reading. I think there’s just something kind of magical about the whole series, and it just makes people fall in love with literature and reading.
10. Anything you’d like to add?
I am really grateful for my time on staff, and I’m excited to see what future staff members do and to keep following the newspaper.
