The Girls Tennis team poses in their tie-dye shirts after a hard practice. Tennis may be an individual sport, but the girls on the team still support and have fun with each other.

Girls tennis swung into the 2021 season with their first match against Washington High School on August 23, 2021. From that point on, the season commenced full force. Head coach Lane Stoner and the new assistant coach, Elizabeth Beachy, have worked hard on preparing the girls for the season and look forward to what the rest of the year will bring.

Tennis does not require a coach year round, like most sports, but takes a much more individual focus. Preparation started with individuals taking their own time and dedicating it to practicing. Senior Isabella Naddeo used the offseason to work on her game. She practiced every day.

Junior Addison Agnew, as well as much of the varsity team,  took lessons from Coach Stoner during this time, too.

According to Beachy, Agnew is “a threat at the net.”

Starting August 16, though, three hour practices were held to work out the kinks for the season. These consisted of many challenge matches, doubles work and volley improvements.

As the season continues, the team will continue the hard work in order to improve.

“We will work on consistency and teamwork,” says Beachy.

The section that the team plays in is a difficult one, according to Stoner, with teams from Peters Township, Upper Saint Clair, Mount Lebanon, Chartiers Valley, Canon McMillan, West Allegheny, Bethel Park and South Fayette. This section has provided the doubles state champions the past year, along with the state singles runner-up.

“As long as the girls have fun and get better, then the win/loss is irrelevant,” says Stoner.

Contributing to the fun, is self proclaimed “Tennis team cheerleader,” Agnew.

“Personally, I like to be the tennis team cheerleader. I try to keep things light and fun for everyone,” she says.

Their next match is away versus South Fayette at the Fort Cherry Junior/Senior High School. Show your support not only by going to the matches, but by also following the team Twitter account, @trinitygtennis!
