“Spring” into new March menus
This March, both McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts are releasing several new additions to their menus. I will be reviewing and grading these menu items!
McDonald’s released two new dessert/drink items to their menu, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. The first item I ordered of the two is the notorious Shamrock Shake. It is a very sweet, thick milkshake, with a mousse-like texture that embodies a refreshing mint flavor with a hint of chocolate. The mint flavor is very mild, so the aftertaste is solely a creamy vanilla flavor. I highly recommend this drink!
This drink costs $3.59 for its standard size of a medium; small sizes are a $1 downcharge and large sizes are a $.20 upcharge, but are available nonetheless. Overall, I’ve rated this milkshake an 8/10 because it could have had a little bit more of a minty flavor.
The second item I ordered from McDonald’s is the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry. This ice cream had a very smooth and creamy texture with a mild mint flavor. However, this twist on the Shamrock Shake has oreo cookie pieces broken up and scattered all throughout the cup; it tasted like a mild mint flavored twist on cookies and cream. This McFlurry costs $4.29 for the standard size and $3.29 for the snack size. I’ve rated this McFlurry an 9/10, due to the oreo component; without the oreos, I would have rated this the same as the original Shamrock Shake due to its need for more mint flavoring.
Alongside McDonald’s, Dunkin’ Donuts released four new spring drink items. The first item introduced was the Sweet Cold Foam Cold Brew, and it is the first new cold brew coffee I tried out of the three. Flavor shots can be added in order to spice it up; in this case, I chose no flavoring for an unbiased review. The coffee is very bland, but the cold foam makes up for it. The foam is very sweet, light and airy, but also very delicious! Dunkin’ is running a promotional offer now until March 23 where any medium cold brew coffee is only $3. I’ve rated this drink a 7/10. I would have liked it better if I would have added a flavor shot; the coffee in general was too bland for my liking and had a poor aftertaste, but the cold foam saved it!
The second Dunkin’ drink I ordered was the Charli Cold Foam Cold Brew. Yes, this drink is named after Charli as in Charli D’amelio, famous Tik-Tok star. Her drink consisted of the same makeup as the previous drink I mentioned, but consisted of three pumps of caramel and topped with the cold foam and cinnamon sugar. This drink is a must! It is not too
sweet, but flavored just right with the caramel, and the cinnamon sugar on top adds just a little bit of spice! This drink will fall under the promotional deal as well. I’ve rated this drink a 9.5/10; the aftertaste was somewhat bitter, but it wasn’t the worst. I highly recommend this drink to the caramel lovers out there!
Next, I reviewed the Chocolate Stout Flavored Cold Brew with Sweet Cold Foam. This drink is the epitome of sweet and salty. The chocolate adds a rich, sweet flavor while a hint of molasses balances out the drink. This drink, as well as the two cold brews I previously mentioned, is topped with the new sweet cold foam. I highly recommend this drink as well! I’ve rated this drink a 9.5/10, but it lost a half point due to the poor aftertaste.
Last but not least, Dunkin’s final spring menu item, the Blueberry Matcha Latte. One of my favorite drinks from Dunkin’ is their original Matcha Latte, so I was very excited to try this one. This drink comes in hot, cold and even frozen form, perfect for every season. It was very smooth with a sweet flavor, much like the original, but it had only a hint of blueberry flavoring. This, in my opinion, was really good. The drink in itself has a ton of natural sweeteners, due to it being a type of green tea, but the blueberry flavor toned the sweetness down and took a more fruity approach. This drink can cost anywhere between $3.19 and $4.99 depending on the size. I’ve rated this drink a 10/10!
Go out and try these amazing spring menu additions now through the end of March! Enjoy!
